IIIT Hyderabad UGEE – Undergraduate Entrance Examination

The Undergraduate Entrance Examination (UGEE) is conducted by the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) for admission to its B.Tech programs, particularly in branches like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Communication Engineering. IIIT-H is known for its research-oriented approach and innovative teaching methods, making the UGEE an important exam for those aspiring to join the institute.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Limit:
    • The candidate must be born on or after 1st October 2004 (for the academic year 2025).
  2. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have passed or be appearing for Class 12 (or equivalent examination) from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
    • A minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Class 12 is typically required.
    • Candidates from all boards (CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, etc.) are eligible, provided they meet the required criteria.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Visit the official IIIT Hyderabad website (https://www.iiit.ac.in) and register for the UGEE exam.
  2. Form Submission: Fill out the online application form with personal and academic details.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through online methods like debit/credit cards, UPI, or net banking.
  4. Admit Card: Candidates can download the admit card from the official website once available.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: The UGEE is a computer-based test (CBT).
  • Sections:
    • Mathematics: 50 questions.
    • Physics: 50 questions.
    • Chemistry: 25 questions.
    • Total Marks: 150.
  • Duration: 2.5 hours (150 minutes).
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +3 marks for each correct answer.
    • -1 mark for each incorrect answer (negative marking).
    • No marks for unanswered questions.

Syllabus

The UGEE syllabus is based on the Class 12 curriculum of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Some key topics are:

  1. Mathematics: Algebra, Calculus, Vectors, Probability, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, etc.
  2. Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, Modern Physics, etc.
  3. Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry.

Admission Process

  1. Written Exam: Candidates must appear for the UGEE exam.
  2. Shortlisting: Based on the UGEE score, candidates are shortlisted for the Interview (Personal Interaction or PI).
  3. Interview: The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview (usually conducted online). The interview assesses the candidate’s problem-solving abilities and technical knowledge.
  4. Final Selection: Final admission is based on the performance in both the written exam and the interview.
  5. Counseling and Document Verification: Candidates who are selected in the final list must participate in the counseling process and provide required documents for verification.
