JEE Advanced – Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)

JEE Advanced is the second phase of the Joint Entrance Examination and is required for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is one of the most challenging undergraduate entrance exams in India, conducted annually by one of the IITs on a rotational basis.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Performance in JEE Main:
    • Only the top 2,50,000 rank holders (including all categories) in JEE Main are eligible.
  2. Age Limit:
    • Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1999 (relaxation of 5 years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates).
  3. Educational Qualification:
    • Must have passed the 12th or equivalent exam in the previous year or the current year.
  4. Number of Attempts:
    • A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Register online on the official JEE Advanced website (https://jeeadv.ac.in).
  2. Form Submission: Provide personal, academic, and communication details.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through online or offline methods.
  4. Admit Card: Download the admit card once released.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  • Papers: Two compulsory papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2).
  • Duration: 3 hours per paper.
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
  • Question Types: MCQs, Numerical Value Questions, and Match the Following.
  • Marking Scheme: Partial, full, and negative marking (varies by question type).

Syllabus

  1. Physics: Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Optics, Modern Physics, and more.
  2. Mathematics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, and Coordinate Geometry.
  3. Chemistry:
    • Physical Chemistry: Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics, Equilibrium.
    • Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Functional Groups, Biomolecules.
    • Inorganic Chemistry: Periodic Table, Coordination Compounds, Metallurgy.

Admission Process

  1. Appear for the JEE Advanced exam and secure a valid All India Rank (AIR).
  2. Check the cutoff and rank list for IITs and other institutes.
  3. Participate in JoSAA counseling for seat allocation based on rank, category, and preferences.
  4. Complete the admission formalities at the allocated IIT or institute.

  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (for select programs).
  • Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs).
