NEET UG – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates

NEET UG is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical programs (MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and Veterinary courses) in medical colleges across India. It is one of the most competitive exams for students aspiring to pursue a career in medicine.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Educational Qualification:
    • Must have passed or be appearing for Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects.
    • A minimum aggregate of 50% marks (45% for OBC, 40% for SC/ST) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12.
  2. Age Limit:
    • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on or before December 31 of the admission year.
    • Upper age limit for candidates:
      • 25 years for General category (with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
  3. Nationality:
    • Indian nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals are eligible.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Visit the official website (https://neet.nta.nic.in) and create an account for registration.
  2. Form Submission: Complete the online application form with personal, academic, and contact details.
  3. Upload Documents: Upload a passport-size photograph, signature, and other required documents.
  4. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online using debit/credit cards, net banking, or other available methods.
  5. Admit Card: Download the admit card once it is available.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: Pen and Paper-based Test (Offline).
  • Sections:
    • Physics (50 questions).
    • Chemistry (50 questions).
    • Biology (Botany and Zoology) (50 questions).
  • Total Questions: 180.
  • Marking Scheme: +4 for correct answers, -1 for incorrect answers.
  • Duration: 3 hours.

Syllabus

The NEET UG syllabus is based on the Class 11 and 12 curriculum, primarily focusing on topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

  1. Physics: Mechanics, Optics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetic Induction, and Modern Physics.
  2. Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry.
  3. Biology: Cell Structure and Function, Human Physiology, Genetics, Ecology, and Plant Physiology.

Admission Process

  1. Appear for NEET UG and obtain a valid score.
  2. Participate in centralized counseling (for both government and private colleges).
  3. Seat allocation is based on NEET UG rank, preferences, and availability.
  4. Complete the admission process by submitting documents and paying the fee.

  • Private medical colleges (e.g., AIIMS, JIPMER, and other state and national institutes).
  • Dental colleges offering BDS courses.
  • AYUSH and Veterinary courses across India.
