KCET – Karnataka Common Entrance Test

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for admission to undergraduate programs in Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, and Veterinary courses across various government and private colleges in Karnataka. The exam is a significant gateway for students aspiring to pursue higher education in these fields in Karnataka.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Limit:
    • There is no specific age limit for KCET. However, candidates must fulfill the eligibility requirements set by the respective colleges and courses.
  2. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for Engineering) or Biology (for Pharmacy and Agriculture) as core subjects.
    • A minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) in aggregate is typically required in Class 12.
    • Candidates must be citizens of India and should fulfill the domicile requirements for Karnataka.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Visit the official KCET website (https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea) to register for the exam.
  2. Form Submission: Fill in the required personal, academic, and contact details in the online application form.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through online modes such as debit/credit cards, UPI, or net banking.
  4. Admit Card: After successfully registering, candidates can download the admit card from the official website.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: The exam is conducted in pen and paper-based mode (offline).
  • Sections:
    • Physics: 60 questions.
    • Chemistry: 60 questions.
    • Mathematics/Biology: 60 questions (depending on the course chosen).
  • Total Marks: 180.
  • Duration: 3 hours (1 hour for each section).
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +1 mark for each correct answer.
    • No negative marking for incorrect answers.

Syllabus

  • The KCET syllabus is based on the Class 12 curriculum, including:
    1. Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electrostatics, and Magnetism.
    2. Chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry.
    3. Mathematics: Algebra, Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry.
    4. Biology (for Pharmacy and Agriculture): Cell Biology, Genetics, Plant Physiology, Animal Physiology.

Admission Process

  1. Exam: Candidates must appear for the KCET exam.
  2. Result: After the exam, KEA releases the results, along with rank lists.
  3. Counseling: Based on the rank obtained, candidates are called for online counseling for seat allocation.
  4. Final Admission: Candidates need to submit necessary documents and pay the admission fee for final enrollment in the allotted college.
