KEAM – Kerala Engineering, Architecture, Medical Exam

The Kerala Engineering, Architecture, and Medical (KEAM) exam is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. It is conducted for admission to various undergraduate courses in Engineering, Architecture, Medical, and other professional programs in the state of Kerala. KEAM is a significant exam for students aspiring to pursue B.Tech, B.Arch, MBBS, BDS, and other courses in Kerala's reputed institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Limit:
    • For Engineering and Architecture: Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as of December 31st of the admission year.
    • For Medical: Candidates must be at least 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  2. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for Engineering or Biology, Physics, and Chemistry for Medical and Agriculture courses.
    • A minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is required for Engineering. For Medical and Agriculture, a minimum of 50% marks (40% for reserved categories) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is required.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Visit the official KEAM website (https://cee.kerala.gov.in) to register for the exam.
  2. Form Submission: Fill out the online application form with personal, academic, and contact details.
  3. Fee Payment: The application fee can be paid through online methods such as debit/credit cards, net banking, or through e-challan.
  4. Admit Card: After successful submission, candidates can download the admit card from the official website.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: The exam is conducted in pen and paper-based mode (offline).
  • Sections:
    • Engineering:
      • Physics: 120 questions.
      • Chemistry: 120 questions.
      • Mathematics: 120 questions.
    • Medical:
      • Physics: 120 questions.
      • Chemistry: 120 questions.
      • Biology: 120 questions.
  • Total Marks: 480 (120 marks for each subject).
  • Duration: 2 hours for each paper.
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +4 marks for each correct answer.
    • -1 mark for each incorrect answer.

Syllabus

  • The syllabus for KEAM is based on the Class 12 curriculum of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology (depending on the course). The topics include:
    1. Physics: Mechanics, Waves, Optics, Electricity, Magnetism, Nuclear Physics.
    2. Chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry.
    3. Mathematics: Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry.
    4. Biology: Genetics, Plant Physiology, Ecology, Human Physiology.

Admission Process

  1. Exam: Candidates must appear for KEAM and obtain qualifying marks.
  2. Result: KEAM results are published with the rank list, and candidates are shortlisted based on their performance.
  3. Counseling: Based on the rank obtained, candidates will be invited for the centralized counseling process.
  4. Final Admission: Admission is granted after document verification and seat allotment.
