WBJEE – West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for admission to undergraduate programs in Engineering, Pharmacy, and Architecture offered by various colleges in West Bengal. It serves as a gateway for students aspiring to pursue B.Tech, B.Pharm, and B.Arch courses in government and private institutions across the state.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Limit:
    • The candidate must be at least 17 years old as of December 31st of the admission year.
    • There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Engineering or Pharmacy. For Architecture, the age limit is 25 years (with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST candidates).
  2. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for Engineering and Pharmacy) or Mathematics and Physics (for Architecture) as compulsory subjects.
    • A minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) in Class 12 is generally required.
    • For Architecture, candidates need to have passed in Mathematics and Physics at the Class 12 level.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Visit the official WBJEE website (https://wbjeeb.nic.in) and register for the exam.
  2. Form Submission: Fill in the personal, academic, and contact details in the online application form.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee via online methods such as debit/credit cards, net banking, or UPI.
  4. Admit Card: Once the application is successfully submitted, candidates can download their admit cards from the official website.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: The exam is conducted in pen and paper-based mode (offline).
  • Sections:
    • Paper 1 (Mathematics): 75 questions (50 objective and 25 subjective).
    • Paper 2 (Physics): 40 objective questions.
    • Paper 3 (Chemistry): 40 objective questions.
    • Paper 4 (Architecture): 50 objective questions (for Architecture candidates).
  • Total Marks: 200 (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry combined).
  • Duration: 2 hours (for each paper).
  • Marking Scheme:
    • Objective Questions: +1 mark for each correct answer.
    • Subjective Questions: +2 marks for each correct answer.
    • Negative Marking: -1/4 for each wrong answer in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
    • No negative marking for Architecture paper.

Syllabus

  • The WBJEE syllabus is based on the Class 12 curriculum in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for Engineering and Pharmacy. For Architecture, additional topics related to drawing and spatial ability are included.
    1. Mathematics: Algebra, Calculus, Vectors, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry.
    2. Physics: Mechanics, Waves, Optics, Electricity, Magnetism.
    3. Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry.
    4. Architecture: General Knowledge, Drawing Skills, Aptitude for Design.

Admission Process

  1. Exam: Candidates must appear for the WBJEE exam.
  2. Result: After the exam, the WBJEEB announces the result along with the rank list.
  3. Counseling: Based on the rank obtained in the exam, candidates are eligible for the online counseling process.
  4. Final Admission: Seat allotment and final admission depend on the candidate’s rank and choice of course/college during counseling.
