JEE Main – Joint Entrance Examination (Main)
JEE Main is a national-level engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is required for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions. Additionally, it serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is the gateway to IITs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Age Limit: No specific age limit. Candidates must meet the age criteria set by the institute they are applying to.
- Educational Qualification:
- Must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
- Candidates appearing in the final year of the qualifying exam are also eligible.
- Number of Attempts:
- A candidate can attempt JEE Main in three consecutive years.
- The exam is conducted twice a year (January and April), and candidates can appear in both sessions.
Application Process
- Registration: Visit the official website (https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/) and complete the online registration.
- Form Submission: Fill out personal, academic, and contact details.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned images of photographs and signatures as per the specified format.
- Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online using net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card.
- Confirmation: Download and save the confirmation page.
Exam Pattern
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
- Sections: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Number of Questions: 90 questions in total (30 per subject).
- Section A: 20 MCQs (all compulsory).
- Section B: 10 Numerical Value Questions (any 5 to be attempted).
- Marking Scheme: +4 for correct answers, -1 for incorrect MCQs, and no negative marking in Section B.
- Duration: 3 hours.

- Mathematics: Sets, Relations, Functions, Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Vector Algebra, and more.
- Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Optics, Modern Physics, and more.
- Chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, including topics like chemical bonding, thermodynamics, and hydrocarbons.

Admission Process
- Appear for JEE Main and obtain a valid score.
- Check the cutoff for desired NITs, IIITs, or other institutions.
- Participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling for seat allocation based on rank and preferences.
- Complete the admission process at the allotted institute.
